On November 17th, the MMS Robotics Team competed in the annual FIRST LEGO League Regional Tournament at Marquette University High School. After completing the tournament’s Project assignment and Robot Game, the MMS team was nominated for five out of 11 awards, and won the Presentation award!
There were 24 teams competing for these awards this year, and to be nominated within this wide field was a tremendous honor. Within competition, the teams were challenged to execute a project that required students to identify a community that could experience a natural disaster, identify a problem that happens when a natural disaster occurs, create an innovative solution that helps people prepare or rebuild, and share their problems and solutions with others. The teams were challenged to complete a number of missions utilizing their robot, with each completed mission earning the team points.
When competition ended, MMS was honored as one of only three teams nominated for the Champion’s Award, which recognizes a team that embodies the FIRST LEGO League experience. While they did not win the award, they did bring home first place in the Presentation Project Award, which recognizes a team that most effectively communicates the project’s identified problem and their proposed solution.
Other award nominations include the Innovative Solution award, the Research award and the Teamwork award.
We are so proud of the hard work of the MMS Robotics Team. Their excellent showing, complete with their Presentation award and total of five nominations, illustrates their patience, teamwork, problem-solving abilities and high technological skill. Congratulations to the entire team!
