Before joining the faculty at MMS, Kathy Maki worked in the summer recreation department at Milwaukee Public Schools teaching games, crafts, and group activities to four, five, and six-year-olds. It was there that she discerned a love of teaching, and she went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Milwaukee Area Technical College. Upon graduation in the summer of 1989, Kathy began working at MMS in the Toddler Program and remained there until the fall of 2021 when she decided to semi-retire. Because of her deep love of children, Kathy decided to return to MMS in the role of a substitute teacher. In this role, Kathy is able to work with every program level, and gets to enjoy learning and spending time with all students. She especially loves subbing in the toddler classroom where she spent so many of her years. She is so happy to be back!

Kathy and her husband, Chris, have two wonderful children. Alexandra is attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison in their Nursing school and is an MMS alum, and Jack, is attending MSOE in Computer Engineering. Kathy loves to travel with her family and hang out at home reading and binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy.
