“MMS has made such a great impact on my life and career in teaching me fundamental ways to problem solve, be a self-starter, and have the ability to work with anyone.”
Ellyn Gareis (Hurtado) graduated from Milwaukee Montessori School in 2010 and went on to Cedarburg High School (’14) followed by UW-Whitewater where she earned a degree in Entrepreneurship in 2018. In May of 2022, Ellyn graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a Master of Business Administration. Ellyn worked at the Medical College of Wisconsin as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, overseeing all student programming, educational experiences, and researcher recruiting. In September of 2022, Ellyn transitioned to a new career with Advocate Aurora Healthcare as a Recruiter. When Ellyn is not working, she enjoys horseback riding, snowboarding, traveling, and creating DIY furniture flips!
When reflecting on MMS memories, Ellyn shared that one of her fondest memories was meeting one of her best friends in 1st grade - Allison Moore (Armstrong). On the first day of Mrs. McCarthy’s class, every student was handed a math sheet - Ellyn was slightly intimidated and Allison helped her complete it - the two have been friends ever since. Nature’s Classroom was also always a highlight for Ellyn in Upper Elementary and Jr. High. Ellyn states that she appreciates MMS’ diverse environment and how the Montessori method equipped her with the fundamental tools to be a fearless problem solver, ask questions when necessary, seek understanding, and successfully transition into a new setting.
