David Swanson grew up in Chicago. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Biology from Northland College in Wisconsin in 1996. Soon after, he began teaching at Nature’s Classroom Institute and Montessori School in Mukwonago where he combined his love of the outdoors with his love of math and teaching. As he worked within the NCI’s experiential classrooms, David began working toward his Elementary Teaching Diploma from the American Montessori Society. In 2003, he founded the elementary program at Nature’s Classroom Montessori.  In 2009, he began teaching math and science at MMS. David received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Pennsylvania State University.

David is a lifelong learner dedicated to his growth as an educator. He truly values the curricular depth available to students at MMS. He strives to foster community learning in the classroom, where students help and teach each other. Community is the center of his educational approach to students and adults.

Outside of school, David spends most of his free time in the natural world: kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, birding, fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family. He enjoys being a father more than anything else. He is an adventurer who continually seeks the experiences and challenges inherent in being in the wilderness.
